Back at it

Where in the world did the last six months go? I definitely dropped the ball on this blog but I am ready to pick up where I left off. The new year hit and I experienced that pull to better myself, make time for things I want to do, and still do the things that I have to do. I'm sure you all went through it too. Vernon and I have made some huge changes for our family and we cannot WAIT to see what comes of it.

The biggest change has been our budget.....well, the creation of one. Thanks to a friend of mine over at Back to the Budget we made a plan and so far haven't had any issues sticking to it. If anything it has become a game of who can spend the least. I'm not confident that I want to post our amount of debt at this point, but maybe in the future. I know that people want to be able to relate to bloggers and in order to do that I would need to share some numbers. I'll get there I'm sure. My hope is that by posting about it, someone else's light bulb might go off.

Laiken got me interested in Dave Ramsey and his Seven Baby Steps. After reading two of his books I realized he was on to something. To be honest, there was nothing mind boggling in the books, it was all simple logic. But just having the steps laid out in black and white was what we needed. Not to mention all of the inspiring stories throughout the books. Everyone loves a success story. Everyone wants to hear that others have been in their shoes and turned it around. It was the kick in the ass that we needed.

Creating a budget and seeing where our money was going was eye opening. Until you have it on paper you don't even realize that you spend money everywhere except for where you're supposed to. We have about 3 years between us and our goal. Previously, we thought that we had about 20-30 years until we met that goal. We've started, we're excited and we're ready to do what we have to do so later we can do what we want to do.

I'll be posting more on this at a later time...including some of the things we have used to get things under control. I'll also be posting about other things that have changed so far this year!

I am not endorsed by Back to the Budget or Dave Ramsey. All opinions I have expressed are my own.
